James Dougall
Following a successful career in Fine Art and Antiques, he fulfilled a long held ambition to become a silversmith and Jeweller, graduating with a first class honours degree in 2009. His unusual approach to design creates fascinating forms rooted in geometry. Each piece is handmade to the highest standard and whilst focusing on traditional skills, his unique perception of shapes and forms and materials creates contemporary and unique pieces. His recent collections, which use shagreen, comes from sustainable sources of Ray Skin in Thailand. Each piece innovatively allows the design to maximise the full visual effect of the rare, valuable and unusual ray skin. Despite his recent entry to the world of designer silversmiths, James’s work has already won numerous awards and has been exhibited widely at prestigious shows such as 2010’s Craftsmanship and Design Awards at Goldsmiths Hall. As his work continues to redefine the way in which silver is viewed and used, his work gains prominence and popularity. James Dougall is a member of the Contemporary British Silversmiths, the Association for Contemporary Jewellery, and has recently been selected for membership of the Oxfordshire Crafts Guild.
