Jean Scott-Moncrieff
Jean finds inspiration in the beauty of ancient artefacts and fragments. Contemporary in feel, her designs show influences from ancient cultures. The work is characterised by simple, classic forms in bold materials with rich textures. High carat golds and silver with carefully selected gemstones and pearls are used to create one-off pieces. Employing traditional techniques like forging and fusing, Jean produces subtle matt textures – some edges are then burnished to a high shine for contrast. She finds unusual gemstones including uncut octahedral diamonds, rose cut spinels and baroque pearls, which add colour and drama. Running through the collection is impeccable design and acute attention to detail. She is interested in form and developing surface decoration. Jean lives and works in Sussex and has a base in London. She has exhibited widely and her work is in many private collections. She takes part in two or three exhibitions a year and works to commission.
