Poppy Porter
As an artist jeweller, Poppy specialises in working with unusual techniques, materials and inspirations. Her design philosophy is to always try something new and to keep pushing the boundaries of her work to create something fascinating not seen before. Working in titanium, other reactive metals, precious metals, pearls and a self developed photo-inlay technique, Poppy creates sculptural pieces designed to make the wearer feel fantastic. All photographs used in her inlay are taken herself and pushed through a digital translation process to become a jewel. Poppy is inspired to create light, colourful and structural jewellery by the speed, beauty and precision design of Formula 1 cars and in stark contrast, the opulence of Tudor and Stuart Lace cuffs and the colour and layering of Japanese kimono. Poppy works closely with digital images and uses those images in both two and three dimensions. She creates pieces of small sculpture wearable as personal adornment and Photo paintings in limited editions. The original images in both her painting and jewellery become part of the new work, dissipating its original coherence into a new form. It is impossible to tell what the original image represented. In its new life the picture bleeds into and lives on in the piece that partly takes its inspiration from the image it destroyed in its creation.
